Canada and Climate Change

Overview

Environmental issues were a key topic of discussion during US President Obama’s recent visit to Canada. Both governments have indicated that they will be engaging in a “Clean Energy Dialogue” and taking serious action to deal with climate change. We can thus expect climate change to again be at the forefront of political debate in the coming weeks and months.

Your ideas are needed now.
Recipient: Briefing notes will be submitted to the Minister of the Environment. Identify and outline the policy that you think Canada should adopt to deal with the climate change crisis.

Key Questions

Each Policy Submission must address one or more of the following questions. (Can you improve these questions?)

How closely should Canada’s policies be linked to the US? We should take the time to lead on this issue and show the world what can be done . Make our country a place to develop new technologies and ways to improve the methods that are used now .

This could be done with very little investment by government , just some seed money for plants and tax breaks for levels of people employed . For once we could lead not follow .

Should our focus be bilateral or multilateral?


What position should Canada adopt at the Copenhagen conference?


How does the economic crisis impact actions on climate change?


Fact is, because of the economic turmoil, companies are using substandard and low-cost materials to save on operational costs. Thus, compromising the environmental effects that those kind of materials emit. This is
